A blog about one young womans dermal needling experience
Dermal Needling isn’t suitable for acne-inflamed skin; this means this treatment isn’t for you if your skin is still breaking out on a daily basis and have got inflamed acne. You will need to get this under control, possibly with a Medik8 Peel with Nik at Mojo Beauty, before you continue onto this treatment, which is done to skin and regenerate it. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, broken capillaries, pigmentation and stretch marks. As scary as it may look, skin needling is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. These needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. It helps to promote collagen levels within 72 hours and ultimately it what will make your skin G L O W! I have now had about 4-5 skin needling treatments in the space of 6 months and my skin is glowing like the sun! People actually compliment me on my skin every single day, and this is coming from someone who’s lived the majority of their life battling cystic acne and mountains of breakouts! The Treatment Itself: Firstly a good cleanse (ow two!) is performed to make sure that no bacteria or impurities like makeup is left on your face as the needles will otherwise push it into your skin and will infect the skin – not what we want! Then, you’ll be lathered all over your face with a numbing cream – the numbing cream will feel funny as it starts to work, because, basically, it numbs your face – which is exactly what we want to achieve, trust me! After 20-25 minutes the real skin needling treatment will start – it only takes about 10 minutes or so to do your entire face, and you can hardly feel anything (because of the numbing cream) as the treatment takes places – it looks painful because the little punctures will make your skin slightly bleed, but you can’t feel a thing The “fatty” areas of your face i.e. cheeks will feel fine but the forehead, chin, and along the jawline will be slightly more sensitive as there’s less fat. The skin needling pen will go over your face. Once going sideways and once going downwards (except on your nose). If there are any areas of concern e.g. acne scars they will press the area in a star/asterik/ shape. And yes, as I mentioned, there will be a bit of blood, but you won’t see that as the therapist will wipe this away as they go to prevent any inflammation. Finishing your skin needling procedure with a LED treatment is very advisable (from me) as it will help your skin regenerate and heal much quicker (we are talking days). You will be quite red for a few hours after, but it’ll go down quickly, so please don’t be scared Expect shedding of skin in the coming days and dryness – this is normal as your old skin cells are coming off in order to make room for new ones.
